Shipping A Vehicle To Hawaii, Registered Owner

All vehicles are required to register with Hawaiis Department of Transportation. Vehicles coming out of Hawaii should be registered according to which district or county they are used, not statewide. If you bring a car into Hawaii, but do not stay long enough to register the car, you may want to request a out-of-state permit.

If you are planning on moving to Hawaii or buying a car, you will have to register the car with the Department of Transportation. When you have plans to move counties in Hawaii, you must register the vehicle using your new county residency address. Within one month of moving to Hawaii, you may either register your car in Hawaii or obtain a one-year permit for out-of-state driving. Note if you are staying an extended time or moving permanently to Hawaii, you will need to register your car once it is shipped to Hawaii.

If you are planning on becoming a permanent resident on any one of the islands, you will need to register the vehicle within 30 days. If you choose to relocate to Hawaii, keep the car in Hawaii, or terminate your active military duty, there are fees to be paid, and you must have the vehicle registered within 30 days. You do not have to pay any registration fees if you purchase the car in Hawaii, or you choose to register your vehicle in another state. Yes, it is possible to send a loaned vehicle to Hawaii if you have a permission letter from your lender.

An auto transportation company will require a few background details before they will arrange car transportation to Hawaii. Once you book a Hawaii auto transportation service, it is time to prepare your car for transportation.

Make sure that you are not going at the very tail end of the pickup window — or make arrangements to hand over the car to the auto transportation company. Very few auto transportation companies will pick your car up at your house on the mainland and bring it to your front door in Hawaii. When your vehicle arrives on the mainland, you may want it picked up by a vehicle shipping company and delivered to your doorstep. You will need to either have your vehicle picked up from a port in Hawaii – or have another car transportation company bring your car from the port in Hawaii to your house.

Many car shipping companies will not move your car to Hawaii unless it is driveable. When shipping your vehicle to Hawaii, you are working with an auto transportation broker and carrier – as well as a foreign transportation company, which physically moves your car across the ocean. Shipping a car to Hawaii means that your car will be in transit both by truck and by boat, and timing the two deliveries could become complicated.

Shipping a car to Hawaii is simple, as long as you know what you have to do to move the car from the mainland to the islands, and what you have to do to legally and safely get it there. When you ship with Montway, Montway can make the car shipping process in Hawaii simple, seamless, and successful, taking much of the burden of vehicle transportation off of your shoulders. Now that you know the details about shipping your vehicle to Hawaii or back, you do not have to leave behind any of your prized possessions.

Rest assured, however, that American Auto Transport will make sure that your car is kept safe during transit. Damage protection: We take every precaution and measure we need to make sure that your vehicle is delivered exactly as we took it. If, for whatever reason, it is damaged (unfortunately, American Auto Shipping cannot control every aspect of a shipment — particularly the weather), we will help cover damages.

We should note that a closed-end haul would be much more expensive, as the car would have to be tethered, and extra care would need to be taken that it does not move during transport. Vehicles must be inspected prior to shipping, to make sure that any mechanical issues and safety concerns are addressed. Your car must be in good working order, without any flat tires or broken windows.

All other items except the correctly stored spare tire and jack, owners manual, as well as the floormats and seat covers should be removed from the vehicle. After the Vehicle is checked into Port, all of the personal items left in it are removed prior to loading Vehicles on to ships. A vehicle being shipped from Hawaii to the mainland must be cleaned extensively, inside and out. Before shipping a car in Hawaii, you will want to thoroughly wash it (inside and outside), remove any belongings from inside the vehicle and truck, turn off your cars alarm unless you have a remote, check that the tires are all fully inflated, and drive the vehicle until it is only one-fourth of its way full.

Shipping a car to Hawaii is not exactly like shipping a car anywhere else in the United States. You will have to take your car to the port, where it will be loaded on a ferry boat for the trip across the ocean. It is critical that you follow the rules to shipping your vehicle to Hawaii, since failing to do so can result in your vehicle being held in port, or even being confiscated by U.S. Customs. To do any of these, you will also have to present a car shipment receipt and purchase auto insurance in Hawaii, and your vehicle will have to be subjected to inspection. Due to Hawaiias isolated location, expect to pay higher car transportation costs when sending your car to Hawaii.

The vehicle also needs to be in good working order if you chose the roll-on-roll-off vehicle transport service to Hawaii. If you want a door-to-door service, you will have to find a local company based in Hawaii that will handle the final leg of delivery (they are typically the only ones who will be able to get your car from the port to your house). Door-to-door transportation in Hawaii Full-service moving companies often deliver your car to your new address (rather than at the port) if you are shipping it with your household items. When you are moving to the islands, and you select Montway to transport your vehicle in Hawaii, Montway handles all of your car transportation needs so that you can concentrate on moving your stuff and getting settled into your family.

Getting your vehicle to your inland destination also takes extra time. For instance, getting your vehicle shipped from Miami to Honolulu takes between 13 and 20 days, nine to 16 days from Houston to Hilo, 12 to 19 days from Atlanta to Kahului, and 13 to 20 days from Cincinnati to Kawaihae. A form must be filled out every time you file a renewal of your registration, when you change car ownership, and when you change counties in Hawaii.

DON’T GET SCAMMED OUT OF YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!

Many companies ask for a deposit to lock you in, making it difficult to get a refund if they don’t pick up your car on time—or at all. If your car isn't picked up, they may delay the process until it’s nearly impossible to get your money back.
We often hear from customers who are left stranded by other companies that never show up, leaving them stuck with charges that their credit card company won’t reverse. As a result, they lose their deposits. We don’t require a deposit and won’t charge your card until the day we pick up your car.
