What if the carrier can’t reach my street?
You meet the driver at a nearby spot instead — a parking lot, shopping center, garage, or wide cross street. Car haulers run up to 75 feet long and can’t maneuver narrow streets, cul-de-sacs, gated communities, or low-hanging trees, so a short meet-point drive is a routine part of door-to-door service, not a failure of it. The key is sorting the location out at booking, before the truck is en route.
“Door-to-door” means the driver gets as close to your door as the truck safely and legally can. In most suburbs that’s your driveway. In plenty of places, it isn’t.
Where meet points are the norm
- Dense city cores. Manhattan and the outer boroughs are logistically tight — carriers often prefer a nearby lot or parking structure. Same story in dense Chicago neighborhoods, where narrow streets, permit zones, and parking enforcement complicate a doorstep drop.
- Restricted-access areas. Many South Florida addresses — Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach — restrict large car haulers. Gated communities anywhere usually mean meeting outside the gate.
- Sprawling metros. Greater Los Angeles spans 500 square miles, and carriers can’t always reach a door in neighborhoods like Hollywood or Venice. A nearby lot or cross street works better.
- Rural and hill roads. Weight-limited bridges, dirt roads, and switchbacks are all no-go for a loaded hauler.

- Before arrival: the driver calls, and you agree on the spot — typically a lot or wide street a short drive away with room for a 75-foot truck to stage.
- At the meet point: the normal process happens there instead of your driveway — walk-around inspection, Bill of Lading signature, keys.
The version to avoid is the surprise: a driver calling from a truck he can’t turn around, on delivery day, with your car on it. That conversation goes worse for everyone, which is why the access question belongs in the booking call.

Can a smaller truck deliver to my door instead?
Sometimes carriers arrange a final-leg shuttle on a smaller trailer for hard-to-reach addresses, but it’s route-and-carrier dependent. Raise it at booking if your street is truly inaccessible — don’t count on it appearing at delivery.
What if I’m not available to drive to the meet point?
Designate someone else — a family member, neighbor, or property manager can meet the driver, hand over or receive the keys, and sign the Bill of Lading on your behalf. Set that up with your broker in advance.
